The Duchess in Green for Buckingham Palace NATO Reception

The Duchess wore green for this evening’s NATO reception.

The function was hosted by HM at Buckingham Palace as part of events marking the 70th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Below, the Queen with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Here is a look at HM & the Duke of Edinburgh visiting NATO’s Allied Command Operations back in 1957.

There are currently 29 member countries in the alliance. Below, Princess Anne speaking with Ms. Merkel.

Below, Justin Trudeau of Canada is greeted by HM, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

The reception was in the Palace’s picture gallery.

In addition to the NATO leaders, there were also members of delegations and staff at tonight’s function.

Other royal family members at the reception included the Duke of Gloucester (r).

As well as the Duchess of Gloucester.

Another view of HM and guests.

And the Duchess.

After the socializing, it was time to get arranged for the requisite group photo.

The end result.

A Metro UK story notes that after the reception, “leaders then moved on to Downing Street, where they were treated to Christmas carols sang by a choir outside Number 10.” If curious about Prince William’s absence, he was not at the function because he is on an official visit to Oman and Kuwait.

Per The Telegraph’s coverage, HM was in “a matching jacket and dress in steel blue and teal with teal diamante embellishments and the Queen Mother’s Palm Leaf brooch.”

Now for our look at what Kate wore this evening.  She was in an unidentified garment that I believe is a dress, not separates.

The piece has long sleeves with self-covered buttons at the cuff, puffed shoulders, a hidden front placket and single button closure at the mandarin collar and a set-in waistband. Here are closer views of the front placket and cuff.

The Daily Mail is reporting the frock is an Emilia Wickstead design. The collar of an Emilia Wickstead off-the-rack dress is similar to Kate’s, although not identical.

I have emailed Emilia Wickstead’s PR firm to see if we can verify the piece is a Wickstead creation and will update with any new information I discover. Thank you to Alyssa and RoyalFamily UK on Twitter for their ID work!

Here is one more photo that shows the Duchess on her way to the Palace for tonight’s reception. Unfortunately, it is of no help in identifying the garment but it does show the way Kate curled her hair.

Upon first seeing Kate tonight many thought she was wearing the Mulberry ‘Peace and Love’ dress (the fabric has hearts and peace signs woven into it), but that was not the case.

The only other identifiable item worn by the Duchess (in addition to her rings) is her earrings. She brought back the Diamond Pendant Drops on loan from HM.  You see an image from tonight on the left; the other two photos are from the RAF 100th anniversary service in 2018.

We’ll leave you with one more photo from the event.
