Each money making work at home model is explained below;

1. Work from Home Jobs Model #1 — The New York Life Model

The New York Life work from home jobs model is mostly commission-based, partly office-based and offers a wide room for personal freedom.

Top dog insurance companies like AXA, Mutual of Omaha, New York Life allow greater degrees of personal freedom for their insurance agents and financial advisors.

Most of these advisors work in the field and are also generally allowed to work from home.

Generally, I consider this to be a work from home job.

Annual Salary: About 30k to 50k in the first or second year; then 80k to 180k or more after 3 years. Very few make it to the 250k a year work at home gold standard.

2. Work from Home Jobs Model #2 — The Telecommute Model

The telecommute model is where employers allow their full-time employees to work from home.

This class of employees mostly receive regular pay like all regular employees. The key difference here is that they are partly office-based since some may be required to come to the office on very limited occasions depending on their contract.

Annual Salary: About 30k to 50k in the first or second year; then 80k to 100k or more after 3 years.

3. Work from Home Jobs Model #3 — The Avon Model

The Avon network is a kind of affiliate or network relationship in which Avon reps are paid almost solely on commission. This model offers a wide degree of freedom but reps may have to do door-to-door sales or travel a lot to see potential clients. The commission can be up to 40% or more based on order size and other factors.

Annual Salary: According to Glassdoor.com, the average annual salary for an Avon rep is about $31k. The annual salary range is from 11k to 53k.

4. Work from Home Jobs Model #4 — The Republican Model

When I talk about the Republican model, I am not talking about a party here…lol.. Think of a free republic. Total freedom. This model refers to people who work from home and are entrepreneurial in nature. They are fully independent, mostly small business owners. This is the buffet type, eat-all-you-can-eat, winner takes all approach.

They enjoy the full spectrum of freedoms!

This can also be called the “Work at Home Parent Model”. According to Wikipedia, A work at home parent is an entrepreneur who works from home and integrates parenting into his or her business activities.

They are sometimes referred to as a WAHM (work at home mom) or a WAHD (work at home dad).

Entrepreneurs choose to run businesses from home for a variety of reasons, including lower business expenses, personal health limitations, eliminating commuting, or in order to have a more flexible schedule.

This flexibility can give an entrepreneur more options when planning tasks, business and non-business, including parenting duties. While some home-based entrepreneurs opt for childcare outside the home, others integrate child rearing into their workday and workspace. The latter are considered work-at-home parents.

Many WAHPs start home-based businesses in order to care for their children while still creating income.

The desire to care for one’s own children, the incompatibility of a 9-to-5 work day with school hours or sick days, and the expense of childcare prompt many parents to change or leave their jobs in the workforce to be available to their children.

Many WAHPs build a business schedule that can be integrated with their parenting duties.

Classic examples of this Republican model include people like Arianna Huffington, Pat Flynn, Tim Sykes, Michelle Schroeder-Gardner and many successful business owners.

Annual Salary: Struggle in the first 3 years or so. Sometimes they can make between 30k to 100k in the first 3 years.

After 3 to 5 years, annual income can be $1 million or more! Many successful business owners in this model make millions a year. There’s no cap on income potential.

The Republican model is the Holy Grail of work from home jobs! This is the Mount Sinai of freedom: Money Freedom, Time Freedom and Location Freedom.

5. Work from Home Jobs Model #5 — The Baby Sitter Model

Here, work from home jobs are mostly based at home with little movement.

They are mostly customer service-focused jobs, data entry jobs and other computer-based jobs. Agents in the baby sitter model almost always work exclusively form home. There’s low reliability, meaning jobs may be lost from time to time.

Annual Salary: 10k to 30k. Over 50k is rare. While income potential may not be huge in this work from home jobs, some love the consistency and peace of mind this model brings.

Pros and Cons

All of the above work from home jobs models have their pros and cons.

Some offer more financial rewards than others, yet the downside is that there’s little personal freedom.

Some bring more sense of fulfillment and total independence.

Others may still be tied to the apron strings of employers, which means employees have little control. Some may be more reliable than others, offering a greater degree of income security.

The secret is to do your own due diligence and determine the best path for your unique situation.

What to Do Now?

So what’s the way out? What’s a work from home jobs “dreamer” to do now?

Here are a few suggestions to consider;

1. Know Thyself!

The secret is to know your own personality. Your strengths and weaknesses. Yes, let’s use better terms for this: you’ve gotta know your likes and dislikes.

Yeah, much better.

Once you know yourself deep inside, it becomes a little easier to choose a model.

For example, if you’re a freedom-lover and a risk-taker, then the Republican Model may be best for you.

If you are a people person and have little kids, customer service or the baby sitter model may be best for you. Again, if you hate taking orders and are not a cubicle person, then the Telecommute or Republican Model may be best for you. And so on and on.

2. Determine Your Priority.

You must determine your own personal priority. What do you value most? Financial Success or personal freedom, or some combination of both? If financial success is your top priority, then go for it. If you value personal freedom the most, then choose wisely, accordingly.

3. Give it a Shot

As with most things, you first have to give it a try. Give it a shot. Don’t jump into the work from home jobs pool.

Put one foot in the water first and see how it goes.

Risk very little at this stage (if that’s your style). You may have to try a few models and see which one works best for you.
