The Powerful Pinstripe Suit
Brian once said, “building a smart suiting wardrobe takes thought and planning.” By now you’ve mastered the classic navy and classic gray suit and you’re probably wondering, “where do I go from here?” My suggestion, the under-appreciated pinstriped suit.
Pinstripes have long been a stereotype for the common lawyer or Wall Street banker. This quintessential menswear pattern, with ties to the criminal underworld, continues to be the choice of most alpha-males for good reason. It’s strong, sharp and not-surprisingly easy to wear.
What I love about wearing pinstripes is the confidence it brings. With a well tailored suit, you’re undoubtedly going to feel like the best dressed man in any room. For men who are shorter, pinstripes help you appear taller. Packing a little extra weight? A tighter pinstripe can work its magic and make you appear skinnier.

Dressing down the pinstripe suit can alleviate the stigmas that comes along with it. Often times, as with anything, less it more. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. It’s really as simple as a clean solid shirt, no tie and you’re off and running.
Pinstripes can be intimidating. Just ask the Boston Red Sox! A lot of men want to avoid looking like their father. While a double breasted suit is certainly timeless, it’s best to leave them for mergers and acquisitions. Instead, opt for a single breasted style that has a bit more modern sensibility.
The pinstripe suit is one that people take notice of wherever you are. That can be a good thing. When worn outside of the boardroom or ball field, people will perceive you as overdressed and pretentious. Don’t worry about it. Remember, your clothes tell a story about you. A pinstripe suit tells others around you who you are without saying a word.
