In this extensive (and unbiased) Zety Resume Builder Review, I will discuss my experience creating a resume using Zety. I will also discuss the pricing model, support options if any, and any other information.
After reading this review of Zety, you will have a clearer idea and know for sure if you should build your next resume using the platform.
So, let’s get started.
About Zety Resume Builder
Zety has technically been around since May 2014 but was still named Interview.Me.pl (It was later renamed to Zety in July 2018). The company has helped millions of job seekers worldwide find employment since then. It was founded by three like-minded individuals: Kuba Koziej (CEO), Piotr Sosnowski (VP), and Kacper Brzozowski (Technical Founder).
With Kuba’s passion and vision, Pete’s expertise in HR, and Kacper’s coding mastery, Zety grew to become an international brand and reaches about 40 million readers a year.
Building a Resume Using Zety
I explored the website, and I love how modern and minimalist their website is. Amazingly right off the bat, they will entice you to create a resume (which is, of course, is the point of going to the website).
First, you can see that there are a ton of options to choose from on the dashboard:
- Tools.
- Resume.
- CV.
- Cover Letter.
- Career Blog.
- About.
- My Account.
I hovered through all of them, and we will be discussing each and every part so you get an idea of what to expect.
‘Tools’ is pretty straightforward in its name. It gives you the option to create a resume (Resume Builder) right away or compose a cover letter (their Cover Letter Builder). I immediately clicked on ‘Resume Builder,’ and I was redirected to a page where I can create a resume in three simple steps:
- Pick a resume template (there are 20+ templates to choose from).
- Fill in the blanks.
- Optimize your document.
In addition to the minimalist aesthetics, I also like the options which either allow you to create a resume from scratch or upload your resume and get some help or improvements through the different Zety Wizards (a term they use for their support).
I selected the ‘Create a New Resume’ option and fill in some personal details such as name, address, and contact number. While editing, you can get a preview of your resume:
After collecting some basic information, we now proceed to work history. Normally, this is the part of the resume where you take the most time but with Zety, I didn’t have much trouble as they provide forms where you can input your data, and they do the rest.
There’s also an auto-fill feature that helps you whenever you type in your data.
In the image above, you can see that Zety has a smart-assist feature that recommends different templates to help you start. Once you click on one, it automatically adds to your resume, and you can still edit it to your preference.
After adding my work experience and clicking on the Next button, though, I was redirected to the page where I needed to create an account to save my resume.
It didn’t put me off, as I think it’s just fair for users to register for an account on their website to take advantage of their services. Anyways, after the registration (which was really quick), you can now continue editing.
Now, let’s say you don’t have any work history summary, you also can skip to the part where you fill out your education details. This can be beneficial for new grads who have yet to gain corporate experience.
Also, there is a preview button that allows you to check your resume’s overall look.
Moving on! When I was still fresh out of school and new to the unemployment world, it was hard to compose a resume that didn’t include any related work experiences. I only had to rely on different articles (which worked), but I wish I would have found Zety earlier. Their expert insights could have guided me to create a better-looking resume than what I did before.
Okay, so you’ve already filled out your work experience, as well as your education. Now, most companies seek individuals with specific skill sets, and sometimes, those skill sets can make you a cut above the rest of the candidates. Zety will help you display it on your resume in a convincing manner in the next part:
This is where it gets interesting, and honestly, I didn’t have this in my resume before (which is probably the reason why I didn’t get too many interviews back). I now firmly believe that the skills section is one of the most important (if not the most) part of your resume.
With Zety, it’s so easy to pick a skill that directly relates to your career. You also get to rank each of your skills n a scale of 1-to-5 stars (which creates excellent conversation starters in every interview). If you can’t find your expertise in any of the suggested selections, you can simply type one by clicking on the ‘+Add one more’ option.
Once you are done, you only need to create a summary. This is usually time-consuming, but Zety makes it more accessible through expertly curated templates:
Once you have created a summary of your resume, normally, you should be done and ready to submit it to a company of your choice.
However, Zety also gives you an option to add additional information to make your resume more interesting:
- Accomplishments.
- Affiliations.
- Additional Information (anything else that you want your future employer to know)
- Software.
- Languages.
- Certifications.
- Interests.
Once you have added any additional information, the next part would be finalizing your resume:
You can choose from 18 different templates, and even go back to the different sections to make additional edits if you aren’t satisfied. You can also choose the formatting to further personalize the look of your resume by changing the font sizes, style, line and section spacing, and more (you can even change the colors).
If you like what you see, you can go ahead and click on ‘Save and Next.’
However, this is the part where I was caught off-guard at first:
I am all for the website’s feature to create a resume, and if they have a price for their service, that’s fine. I just think they should have been upfront with their cost as most people might not appreciate spending time to create their resume, only to find out there is a fee.
The good thing, though, is that Zety allows you to experience 14-day full access for $2.70 before they charge you their monthly rate of $24.70.
Another option is to pay their yearly membership, which is worth $71.40 (which is $5.95 per month if you divide it).

You can also cancel anytime by calling their hotline. So, whichever you choose, you do get a fast, easy, and effective way to create your resume, and ultimately land that dream job!

Zety Cover Letter Builder:
Every resume is best highlighted by a well-written cover letter.
You’d want to attach a cover letter because it allows you to introduce yourself formally to the company. Here is a preview of their cover letter builder:
So, right off the bat, you have to enter the position that you desire. If you’re not sure of any position, you can click on ‘I don’t have a job in mind,’ and it will lead you here:
This also works for students. To test, I tried by adding 0 years of experience to show as an example. Zety proceeded to ask me if I’m a student, what type of school I am in (Trade school, High school, College, or Graduate School), my strengths, and my working style:
First, they ask you to select your top 3 skills:
- Collaboration.

The next step is to ask to describe your working style:

I selected ‘Doer’ and clicked on ‘Continue’ and real quick, I was redirected to this page where I can finalize my cover letter (that fast!):
Zety composed a well-thought-out cover letter, which I can either just enter my data on the blanks or personalize it by really making some changes. I was amazed at how quick it was, plus the fact that I can still change the templates and format (same as how I did with the resume), and all can be found on the dashboard above the cover letter.
Aside from being able to choose templates or formatting, you also have the option to manage sections:
You can add your Availability, Confidentiality, Gaps, Relocation, and Salary Requirements as well. You can even arrange the sections as you see fit, and I love the freedom that you can edit and personalize the cover letter to how much you want it to be yours.
So, you might also notice on the top right corner; there are options to Download, Print, Email, or Finish your letter.
All those options lead to you finishing your cover letter. But, you have to pay for the monthly/yearly subscription first before you can continue (same with your resume).
One interesting thing to note is that after you create your resume and cover letter, your dashboard becomes different!
Zety Job Board
Zety helps you land a career by matching your resume to different job offers across the board:
You can also click on the ‘Jobs’ section on your dashboard to seek further the jobs that you wish to apply for.
The jobs are limited to those that are offered only within the United States (I tried entering countries from Europe and Asia, and it didn’t find any matches), but I believe they will be expanding their reach in the future.
Zety Privacy Policy:
Anyways, I’d also like to highlight some of their privacy policies:
- Zety and its service providers may store and retain certain information from you for the time and reasons outlined in their Privacy Policy.
- When you register an account, use Zety’s services, download or use any of their mobile apps, use their forum or make a purchase, you voluntarily share certain information with them, including, but not limited to, your name, email address, address, mobile number, and/or credit card information).
- By using their Site, you agree that they can share the information they collect, to the extent permissible by applicable law, with their subsidiaries and affiliates, to their service providers, other entities such as job posting third-party websites and potential employers when you request, legal authorities, others (in case of change of control), and social networks and companies within the mobile app industry.
It’s not blatantly stated when you guys are in the website’s homepage, but it is essential to read a website’s privacy policies for you to know what you are giving out, and what rights you have.

Zety Resume Builder Online Reviews:
I also checked out any reviews to get more perspective on how Zety is as a company through Trustpilot, and I liked that they have a 4.6 rating (which is high). Most of the negative reviews pertain to (you guessed it), the monthly/yearly charges that were not explicit on the dashboard.
However, Zety did improve that experience by being clear on the charges before you get to save your resume.
Conclusion
Overall, I like what I saw and experienced so far about Zety.com and its features. It isn’t your ordinary resume-builder, which simply gives off templates.
I want to go back to what I said from the start when I said I like their minimalist approach.
Their website feels modern, and the user interface and user experience are well-thought-out and easy on the eyes. When the goal is to get a guide to create a resume and cover letter simple, then this website is for you. It allows for users to also personalize their experience and output through its different templates, and editing options.
I would say that the price to pay might be too much for some (especially students on a budget). Still, the rewards are exponential because when you save time to create the perfect resume and cover letter to increase the chances of landing your dream job, I do believe you save more than just money and effort.
