Many students graduate every year and add to the number of people competing for different positions available in many companies. Most graduates do not have the initial investment to use an online resume builder.
Luckily, I’ve stumbled upon a free resume builder website like GotResumeBuilder.
GotResumeBuilder is one of the many resume builders you might have read on our comprehensive list of free and paid resume builders.
In this extensive (and unbiased) GotResumeBuilder Resume Builder Review, I will discuss my experience creating a resume using their website. I will also discuss the pricing model, support options, if any, and any other information.

After reading this review of GotResumeBuilder, you will have a clearer idea and know for sure if you should build your next resume using the platform.
So, let’s get started.
About GotResumeBuilder
GotResumeBuilder is a free-to-use resume builder software where you can create a resume in 3 simple steps:
- Create resume content with a step-by-step resume writing guide.
- Format resume by selecting a design template and font.
- Download and email the resume in multiple formats.
Over 1.6 million users have used their software, and the website is recommended by Ohio University, the Chicago Public Library, and Drake University.
Building a Resume with GotResumeBuilder
The resume builder is free to use, and you can immediately start by clicking the ‘Build my Resume Now’ button. Before doing that, you can familiarize yourself with the different functions by clicking on the ‘Try a Live Demo’ button.
You will then be given a guided tour or a walkthrough of all the GotResumeBuilder Resume Builder tools.
The Live Demo also features different resume samples from various professions that you can use, such as Accounting Manager, Office Manager, Software Sales Engineer, or VP Marketing.
Using the resume sample gives you a pre-written template that you can edit and personalize.
If you want to build a resume from scratch, you can click on the ‘Manage Resumes’ button and then click on the ‘Create New Resume’ button.
Here you will create a name for your resume template.
You can select the newly created blank resume template on the drop-down options on the resume builder page.
The resume builder also has a progress bar called ‘Resume Progress’ that will show you how complete your resume is.
You can then edit each section by clicking the ‘Edit’ button, and a pop-up will appear, and you can fill out the fields.
Each section has a ‘Resume Coach’ which contains a hyperlink. Clicking on the hyperlink ‘Contact Information’ will show a guide that includes tips. Each field you will fill out will feature different tips!
Before saving the contents of the section you are editing, you can click on the ‘Spell Check’ button to eliminate/minimize errors.
Once you are done, you can click on the ‘Save’ button and proceed to the other sections.
Each detail will be reflected on the dashboard, and you can still edit them by clicking the ‘Edit’ button. If you like what you see, you can proceed to edit the ‘Objective’ section.
The ‘Resume Coach’ will give you tips on how to write your objectives and there are some examples to input on the field as well.
The objective section also contains an ‘Intelli-Sample’ field to search for different samples based on a keyword.
This is very helpful, and there are different examples of each number that you can use. Simply copy/paste it to the field.
There are also different typographical formatting tools such as Bold, Italics, Underline, and Bullet List to emphasize other words.
Once you’ve checked the spelling through the ‘Spell Check’ option, you can save your work and proceed to your ‘Work Experience’ by clicking the ‘Add’ button.
This section also has an ‘Intelli-Sample’ where you can use pre-written examples to copy/paste to the description field.
Once you are done personalizing and checking for spelling errors, you can save your work. You can add more work experiences by clicking the ‘Add’ button. If you’re done, you can proceed to work on the ‘Education’ section.
I noticed that using a single keyword on the Intelli-Sample search bar will yield better results instead of using multiple words.
Filling out is easy because of this, and each section didn’t take much of my time to edit.
The last section of the blank template is the ‘Skills’ section.
The Intelli-Sample search results might need some improvements because I only got the examples that closely fitted the keyword on the 12th option. Nevertheless, this feature is outstanding.
After filling out all the sections, you will notice the ‘Resume Progress’ filled up, but you can still add more sections to fill out by clicking on the ‘Manage Resume Sections’ button.
You can add sections such as:
- Accomplishments.
- Activities.
- Affiliations.
- Core Competencies.
- Coursework.
- Honors and Awards.
- Licenses and Certifications.
- Military Experience.
- Patents.
- Personal Interests.
- Projects.
- Publications.
- Training.
- Preferences.
After adding and editing all the sections you need for your resume, you can create a cover letter (discussed in the next section).
Building a Cover Letter with GotResumeBuilder
I have stressed the importance of a cover letter to every resume on my other articles. On the GotResumeBuilder resume builder, you can also create a cover letter by clicking on the ‘Manage Job Letters’ button.
You can either create a Resume Cover Letter or a Follow Up letter. Simply select an option and click the ‘Add’ button.
This adds a new section, ‘Resume Cover Letter’ which you can edit by clicking the ‘Edit’ button.
I am further amazed by this website because the cover letter editor also has different pre-written templates:
- Entry Level Cover Letters.
- New Graduate Cover Letters.
- Experienced Cover Letters.
- Unemployed Cover Letters.
- Unsolicited Cover Letters.
- Career Changer Cover Letters.
- Internship Cover Letters.
- Part-Time Cover Letters.
- Referral Cover Letters.
To use a template, select one from the dropdown then click the ‘Select’ button. If you have set the wrong template, you can click the ‘Undo’ button.
The templates provided are professional and perfect for the resume you have built using the resume builder.
Once you are done editing and checking for spelling errors, you can save your cover letter. The next step is to format both your resume and cover letter.
To do that, simply click the ‘2. Format’ tab beside the ‘1. Content’ tab. You will see an overview of your resume and some formatting tools.
Here you can choose from 12 different templates.
You can change the page margin from Narrow, Normal, or Wide. You can also rearrange the sections’ position by clicking on the ‘Layout’ button beside the Page Margin dropdowns.
Aside from that, you can also change the ‘font-face’ or ‘font-size’ of your resume.
If you want to edit your resume, you can go back to the content tab, but if you like what you see, you can download your resume or cover letter into either a PDF, Word Document, Word Doc, ODT File, Text File, or Email your resume.
After that, the next step is to publish your resume and cover letter.
GotResumeBuilder Website Builder
Now that you have created a resume and a cover letter, it’s time to create a website where employers can view your portfolio.
To do this, click on the ‘3. Publish’ tab beside the ‘2. Format’ tab. You can change the privacy of your resume website to:
- Disabled — Your resume won’t be shared online.
- Confidential — Your resume will be shared online, but without any contact information.
- Public — Your resume is shared online.
- Password Protected — Only those with a password can view your resume.
You can personalize your link by adding a resume alias and validating to make sure no one else has it.
Once done, you can click on the ‘Save Settings’ button, and you can save your link.
GotResumeBuilder Job Board
Once you have made your resume, cover letter, and website, it is time to apply for a job! Luckily, GotResumeBuilder also has a job board.
You can search for a specific job at one particular location by clicking on the ‘Find Jobs’ button. Clicking on a search result will redirect you to another website.
GotResumeBuilder Privacy Policy
Here are some of GotResumeBuilder’s policies on privacy:
- They collect information from you when you place an order or fill out resume forms.
- They implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information such as Gateway Anti-Virus and Intrusion Prevention Service, password protected directories and databases from safeguarding your information or SSL (Secure Sockets Layered) technology to ensure that your information is fully encrypted and sent across the Internet securely.
- They do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your information.
- If you have a cause that needs to be disputed on their privacy policy, you can fill out their Trust Guard Dispute Resolution form.
GotResumeBuilder Support
You can use GotResumeBuilder’s contact form to send them a message or send an email directly to Support@GotResumeBuilder.com.
There are also different articles that you can read on which topics range from How to Write a Resume or view Sample Resumes.
GotResumeBuilder Reviews
BestCompany has 2 reviews, which gave GotResumeBuilder a rating of 5 stars out of 5.
EasyCounter, however, gave a rating of 1 out of 5 stars.
Both gave contradicting opinions, which suggest that GotResumeBuilder might need more users to experience using their software.
Final Thoughts — Should You Build Your Resume Using GotResumeBuilder?
First of all, I’d like to repeat that GotResumeBuilder’s resume, cover letter, and the website builder are free. I’d like to commend the team who made this possible because many resume builders make you pay before giving the option to download your resume.
Anyways, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a simple but effective resume and cover letter builder. It has all the critical components needed, such as pre-written templates, tips, and the option to download in different formats.
I didn’t feel stressed in creating my resume, and I can even apply for a job after because of the job search engine. Although the interface isn’t the most appealing or modern-looking, I like that its functionality is superb.
